 Student dies from archery arrow wound Kyodo News A 16-year-old boy who fell unconscious earlier this month after being struck between the eyebrows with an arrow, shot by a 17-year-old boy from the same high school archery club, died Sunday at a hospital where he had been treated, police said. The police said they plan to conduct an autopsy on the boy to determine the cause of death, with an eye to possibly laying a charge of gross negligence resulting in death against the 17-year-old boy, who was practicing archery alone with the victim at the time of the accident. The accident occurred Wednesday at a public hall in Tokyo's Meguro Ward. The 17-year-old boy, who called for an ambulance after shooting the 70-centimeter carbon arrow, has been quoted as saying by the police that he accidentally shot the arrow when he aimed it at the 16-year-old boy.  Japanese-language study is growing in popularity overseas every year, especially in East Asia, driven by interest in animation and the desire to find work in Japan. According to a 2006 survey by the Japan Foundation, Japanese was being taught in 133 countries and territories throughout the world to an estimated 2.98 million people, an increase of 26.4 percent from three years before.Since 1984, when the foundation started the Japanese-language proficiency test for non-native speakers, the number of people taking the test has gone up every year.  TV personality Becky, 25, and actor Ryuta Sato, 29, were named as having the “Best Smile of the Year 2009” by the Japan Dental Association during a ceremony on Sunday which was “Good Teeth Day.” When Sato heard of his win, he joked, “Since I entered the celeb world, I’ve always wanted to win a “Something of the Year” award, so I’m really happy.” Becky was happy to hear that the prize for the award was a trip to Korea, exclaiming happily, “I’m so interested in Korea right now.
